Newtown Township started its annual leaf collection on Monday, October 23, 2023.
The published schedule, map, streets listing and instructions which were mailed to each home in the Newtown Township summer newsletter can also be found on the Public Works Leaf Collection Page of the Newtown Township Website.
For leaf collection, Newtown Township is divided into four "zones" which rotate each year for fairness to everyone. We collect from each location once before Thanksgiving and again once before Christmas. Leaves must be out on the first day of your collection week - then it normally takes a week for us to collect all the leaf piles from that zone. Be sure to have your leaves out by Monday morning of your scheduled week. See map below for the zones and dates this year.
However, leaves have been slow to fall from the trees this year and we realize that those who live in this year's Zone #1 have not had many leaves to rake up yet. In fact, Public Works went through Zone #1 in its entirety yesterday and had very few piles to collect. Therefore, Public Works will collect from Zone #1 again beginning Monday, October 30th. We will also collect from Zone #2 beginning October 30th as that was previously scheduled. After that adjustment for Zone #1, we anticipate the published schedule will be followed for the remainder of the season.
A daily collection update is posted on the Public Works Leaf Collection Page. If any additional schedule changes are necessary they will be posted there as well.
Last year 369 truckloads of leaves were collected - equaling approximately 2,200 tons of leaves. We anticipate similar numbers this year. That is a lot of material to keep out of the waste stream! It takes a long time to collect it all and Public Works thanks everyone for their help by following the schedule and instructions.
