PECO to Upgrade Natural Gas Lines on Newtown Road

PECO Symbol

The following information has been received from PennDOT and PECO regarding a Natural Gas Main replacement project on Newtown Road in Newtown and Easttown Townships:

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that PECO Energy will be performing utility construction on several state highways in Chester and Delaware counties.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Monday, April 3, through Monday, April 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Newtown Street Road will be closed and detoured weekdays between St Davids Road and Sugartown Road in Easttown Township, Chester County, and Newtown Township, Delaware County. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 252 (Darby Paoli Road), Leopard Road, and Sugartown Road.
  • Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
  • PECO Energy will complete these projects under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

NOTE THAT although the initial PennDOT news release identifies the first two weeks of closure, the letter from PECO to residents identifies that the project will take place until the end of October.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

Newtown Township reminds all those travelling through any such work zone to be extremely careful, and to follow the instructions of those workers from PECO and their sub-contractors who want to ensure everyone's safety while the project is completed.
