Please see the attached LETTER FROM PECO regarding work to upgrade and install new equipment to enhance the local electric distribution system in the Upper St Albans area of Newtown Township. Work will begin in late June, and the project is expected to be completed in early 2022.
This project was first announced over a year ago, but is just now being started. The letter was first distributed to residents in the Upper St Albans area at the time. As the project is finally about to begin, PECO is re-sending the letter to those residents, and we are posting on the Newtown Township website for all of the community to read.
As shared in this letter to residents, this project is part of PECO’s Reliability & Resiliency Plan to invest $1.36 billion through 2025 on targeted reliability-focused infrastructure investments. The intention is to help strengthen the local electric infrastructure to better withstand more frequent and damaging storms, deliver enhanced reliability for customers, and enable the adoption of clean energy resources. It is part of PECO's overall system investment of approximately $6 billion during the next five years across their electric and natural gas systems to inspect equipment, complete targeted system enhancements and corrective maintenance, invest in new equipment, and perform vegetation management.
Key aspects of PECO's project:
Crews may need to temporarily interrupt service to safely complete some of this work. PECO will work with residents to ensure they are informed in advance of our activities and any planned interruptions, and with Newtown Township to minimize the impact on traffic and pedestrians whenever possible. Access for services such as trash and recycling removal, student transportation and emergency vehicles will be maintained during the work.
Newtown Township reminds all those travelling through any such work zone to be extremely careful, and to follow the instructions of those workers from PECO and their sub-contractors who want to ensure everyone's safety while the project is completed.
