Christmas Tree Collections Continue Through January 17, 2020
Public Works has now entered its second week of collecting Christmas Trees from residential properties, which will be chipped and the wood chips recycled by utilizing them throughout the Newtown Township park and trail system. We started collecting trees on January 2nd, and by the end of last week had already picked up over 150 trees.
Please make sure that your trees are completely free of all bags, tinsel and ornaments. Place them at the curb and we will be by to pick them up. There is no specific schedule of when we will be on a particular street, but last week we got to every street once and are starting the second visit now.
While we only are able to collect from residences on Township-dedicated roads (and are not able to go onto all the private streets to collect), if you live in a portion of the community with an HOA and have private roads instead of public roads, we are happy to work with your HOA to establish a "drop off location" that all of your trees can be placed. Public Works can then go to that one location to collect them. Have your HOA reach out to us at email@example.com to set that up.
Thank you for your efforts to recycle these Christmas trees. We in Public Works are pleased to help keep them out of the waste stream.
Previous Post (12/24/19):
Here is some recycling information that should help you in the days after Christmas...
First, know that your recycling will be collected as usual the day after Christmas (Thursday, December 26th in zone #2) and the day after New Years (Thursday, January 2nd in Zone #1). They start collecting at 7:00 am sharp, so have your material out the night before or early in the morning before 7:00 am. See the Public Works Recycling page for more information about residential recycling in Newtown Township.
Many well-intentioned people place things into recycling in the days after Christmas which cannot be recycled and can contaminate the good material. Here are some guidelines:
Nice List: YES, please do Recycle
Naughty List: NO, do not recycle - instead Reuse, Donate or Discard
For items like non-working Christmas lights, see if stores like Home Deport or Lowes have a drop off for them - some stores do.
For all electronics and textiles, Newtown Township's partnership with retrievr is a great option. See Public Works' webpage on this topic for more information. While primarily discussing electronics, retrievr collects textiles / clothing too.
Christmas Tree Collections
Public Works will collect Christmas Trees for recycling from January 2, 2020 thru January 17, 2020. No need to call - just place your tree at the curb with all bags, decorations, lights and tinsel removed. We will be by throughout the two weeks to pick up trees. We will handle chipping them and will re-use the wood chips in public parks and along trails.
