Pennsylvania’s Environmental Amendment

The People have the right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and aesthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania’s public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people.  Native plants play an important role in our environment.

(Article 1, Section 27 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania)

Overview

Pennsylvania’s Environmental Advisory Councils (EAC) are officially created, appointed arms of municipal government that focus on environmental conservation and improvement. The EAC acts as advisers to elected and appointed Township boards, Township administration, and residents giving the Township a resource to draw upon when decisions are made and activities that are undertaken that effect the environmental resources of the Township.

Activities

The Newtown Township EAC undertakes a wide variety of projects and information-gathering tasks that help the Township meet and exceed its environmental stewardship responsibilities. The EAC seeks grants to fund its advocacy activities.
